As you flick through the pages, what are the significant changes you have observed?
This book has won a number of awards. The collages in the book have been exhibited in galleries around the world. Can you explain why this might be?
Changes in Nouns and Adjectives
You have been given a set of images from Window to examine. Around each picture, you are to write the nouns (objects, people, places you can see) and any adjectives (describing words of feelings, changes in surrounds, descriptions of nouns you can see.)
Around the pictures make a list of nouns and adjectives that you could use to describe the people, places and objects in the scene.
How are the people feeling in each scene? What are the changes you can see?

Examining Wordless Comparative Pictures
Show Don't Tell
Today we will examine the wordless picture book 'Mirror' by Jeannie Baker.
We will look at the comparisons between 1st and 3rd world countries to tie in with our learning about migrants.
What are the major differences you can see comparing scenes as you cast your eyes over the illustrations?
What are the connections you can see throughout the book?
Task:
Students will examine one picture from Mirror between pairs.
Using the technique of 'Show, Don't Tell, you will describe what is happening in the scene in the past tense. You have been using your inferring skills, prior knowledge and practised using similes and metaphors. Using your new skills, you will describe the scene to a reader using all of the new language conventions you have learned.
But first...Describing the day to a blind man...
Watch the below powerful advertisement on 'The Power of Words'. You will use this as inspiration for your writing.
As a class, we will write a description of the day outside underneath the pine trees.
Think of your 5 senses- see, smell, touch, taste, hear
Consider describing objects around you as a simile/metaphor.
